Recognizing Outstanding Achievements: Greg
Botting Broadway Walk of Stars
The Broadway Walk of Stars recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Broadway area. Initiated in 2004, the program is named after the late Greg Botting, one of the Broadway Business Improvement District's past Chairs and a successful and highly active Broadway merchant. Categories for recognition include: builder, merchant, leader, supporter and artist.
Please
see the application form below for defining criteria in each
category.
Careful
to select an icon that complements Broadway streetscape, these
Stars will be recognized with a plaque which is placed on Broadway
between May and August and unveiled at a ceremony organized
by the Walk of Stars Committee. The exact location and date
of the installation will be determined by the Committee in collaboration
with the honouree or his/her nominator.
All
costs incurred in the manufacturing and installation of the
star will be covered by the Walk of Stars Fund. Any reception,
gala or event held in conjunction with the placement of the
star, notwithstanding the brief ceremony at the site of the
unveiling, will be organized and paid for by the nominee, nominator
or friends and family.
Should
any party involved wish to contribute to the WOS Fund, a charitable
tax receipt will be issued in the full amount. Donations will
not influence the selection process; stars will be selected
based wholly on the merit of the application.
Nominations for the WOS will be accepted at the BBID office
on an on-going basis throughout the year.
Thank you to those who submitted nominations for the
2005 Star. The nominations for this year are now closed, however
the BBID will accept submissions at any point prior to February
15, 2006 for consideration in the same year.
The 2005 inductees, Garry and Janice Shoquist, have been in business on the Street for 33 years and were two of the drivers behind the creation of the Broadway BID and the plan to revitalize the area in the mid 1980's. Stop in at their shop, Northland Books at 630 10th Street East, and thank these two fabulous individuals who truly exemplify the spirit of Broadway.
